Three steel rollers of the same size make up the centre of a roll
bending machine. They are set up in a triangular shape. The separation between
the outer rollers can be altered. During the bending procedure, the centre roll
is lowered. The bending radius of the sheet is influenced by the distance
between the outer rolls and the depth of the centre roll's dip.
Pushing the sheet metal through the rollers It
is possible to achieve very large radii if it is moved while being bent. In the
case of tanks or silos, for instance, this is quite useful. The operating range
of tiny bending rollers can be increased by the moving-bending process. The
sheet cannot buckle during forming, which is a benefit of the bending process.
Thus, undesirable hardening or modifications to the outside geometry are
avoided. Technically speaking, a roll bending machine is fairly straightforward
because it just works with sheet metal while producing a large variety of
bending radii. The bending rollers should only be replaced if they are damaged.
